City of LA: Waste{ing} Small Businesses

Waste{ing} Small Businesses

The City of Los Angeles is releasing a Notice of Completion (NOC) for the Draft Program Environmental Impact Report (Draft PEIR) on Commercial and Multifamily Franchise Hauling, also known as Zero Waste LA. The NOC is to inform the public that the Draft PEIR has been completed and is ready for public comment fromNovember 21, 2013 to January 10, 2014.
The City of Los Angeles will consider the adoption of an ordinance to establish and implement an exclusive waste franchise system on a citywide basis for collection and handling of Solid Resources (including solid waste, organic material and recyclables) from commercial and multifamily (commercial) establishments currently serviced by permitted private waste haulers within the City. Zero Waste LA would replace the City’s current open market waste collection and handling system for commercial establishments in the City.  The City of Los Angeles collects, with its own publicly owned solid waste collection trucks, solid waste from single family homes and smaller multifamily complexes.  The City will continue to provide these services which are not part of the proposed project.

The attached NOC gives the details of public meetings, where the Draft PEIR is available, and where to submit written comments. It can also be accessed in the "What's new..." section of Sanitation's website at www.lacity.org/san
We look forward to your participation during this public review period, and hope you join us at one of the scheduled meetings.

Walking, Talking, and Engaging Little Armenia

The monthly community walks have empowered Los Angeles residents to directly connect with their elected officials. On November 23, 2013 at 9am sharp Los Angeles City Council District 13 Councilman Mitch O'farrell came back to Little Armenia to engage the community members and connect with their concerns and needs.

It was a bright day with dozens of community activists volunteering to walk, talk, and invite the constituents voice their concerns. Some of the basic issues in the community was clean and safe sidewalks, graffiti removal and deserted furniture nuisance. Other more common concerns of the neighbors, they were street parking, street closures, and schools.

Across town, Mayor Garcetti was also holding a community walk day in the San Fernando Valley's Pacoima neighborhood. It is highly celebrated that the next generation of City and State Representatives must come out and connect with their district's constituents, working together we can make our community a better place.

Sam Kbushyan joins Hollywood CPAB

Demonstrating the principles of community service and civic engagement, Mr. Sam Kbushyan joined the Hollywood Citizens Police Advisory Board. Earning the graduate degrees of community organizing and empowerment, Mr. Kbushyan strives for better tomorrow. In order to continue developing a safer community, we must use all of the agents and vehicles to reach the destination of a safer and beautiful neighborhood.

Often, it is very important to think before yourself to make the community a better place. Hollywood is a multifaceted and culturally diverse community that fuels the economy of our city, our lives, and the city with progress and prosperity.

Community activism and volunteering are the fundamental foundation of our nation, therefore it is critical that we all join forces in making our city a better place for generations to come. Whether you are visiting or here to stay for decades, take a moment and give back to our city with all of your efforts in order to make it the way some around the world will envy our way of life.

On that note, Los Angeles it truly a city of Angeles that welcomes everyone in open arms. Please do take this matter into your own perspective and mutual agreement to create something that will work together to foster positive growth.

East Hollywood Clean Up Day!

Imagine waking up on a Saturday morning to keep the promise in its place. Everyday is a call of duty to serve a greater purpose for the common good.

The monthly East Hollywood Neighborhood Clean Up Day was fun and memorable. I enjoyed recruiting community volunteers to make things better than we found them before. The clean up was sponsored by Los Angeles City Councilmember Mitch O'Farrell, East Hollywood Neighborhood Council, LAPD Police Activities League, and by Immigrants Charitable Foundation.

Volunteers and neighbors joined in dozens to beautify the Mariposa Ave and keep the monthly tradition at float and intact. I think the clean up was a common effort to keep the momentum in place for everyone's awareness of keeping Los Angeles clean and safe.
